31 July, 2026( Ghufran): Pakistan’s star javelin thrower and defending Commonwealth Games champion Arshad Nadeem has secured a place in the men’s javelin throw final at the 2026 Commonwealth Games after qualifying with a best throw of 78.63 metres. No athlete reached the automatic qualifying standard of 84 metres during the qualification round. Consequently, the top 12 performers based on their best throws advanced to the final, with Arshad Nadeem finishing seventh overall.
Sri Lanka’s Ramesh Tharanga led the qualification standings with a throw of 82.84 metres, followed by Grenada’s Anderson Peters (81.29m) and South Africa’s Douw Smit (80.64m). England’s Ben East recorded 80.38m to finish fourth, while India’s Neeraj Chopra placed fifth with 79.61m. Australia’s MacEntyre secured sixth place with a throw of 78.91m. Pakistan’s Yasir Sultan narrowly missed out on a place in the final after finishing 14th with a best throw of 74.36 metres.
Arshad Nadeem enters the final as the defending Commonwealth Games champion, having produced a historic performance at the 2022 Commonwealth Games by winning the gold medal with a remarkable throw of 90.18 metres. That achievement established new national and Commonwealth Games records and made him the first South Asian athlete to surpass the 90-metre mark in the men’s javelin throw.The nation now looks forward to another inspiring performance from Arshad Nadeem as he aims to successfully defend his Commonwealth Games title and once again bring glory to Pakistan on the international stage.
