Queen’s Park Oval, 4 August, 2026(Nosheen): Pakistan opener Abdullah Shafique produced a magnificent unbeaten innings of 160 to guide his team to a crucial 43-run first-innings lead over the West Indies on the third day of the second Test at Queen’s Park Oval on Tuesday Resuming their innings at 333/6 after lunch, Pakistan added another 54 runs before being bowled out for 387 in 115 overs.Shafique remained unbeaten on 160 from 323 deliveries, striking 15 boundaries and three sixes in a composed and resilient knock that anchored Pakistan’s innings.Shafique received valuable support from Sajid Khan, who scored a determined 30 off 72 balls, helping Pakistan extend their seventh-wicket partnership to 59 runs before Jayden Seales dismissed Sajid with a catch behind the stumps. Lower-order batter Ali Usman contributed 10 runs before falling to left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican, who wrapped up Pakistan’s innings with three wickets in the 115th over, including the dismissals of Ubaid Shah and Mohammad Ali for ducks. Warrican emerged as the standout performer for the West Indies, claiming impressive figures of 6/112 in 46 overs. Shamar Joseph took two wickets, while Jayden Seales added one scalp.
Earlier in the day, Pakistan resumed their innings at 266/3 with captain Babar Azam and Abdullah Shafique at the crease. However, a mix-up between the two batters resulted in Babar being run out for a well-made 88 off 147 balls, an innings featuring 10 fours and one six. Pakistan then suffered a brief middle-order collapse as debutant Awais Zafar and Salman Ali Agha departed in quick succession, reducing the visitors to 286/5. Mohammad Rizwan added 18 runs before being bowled by Warrican, but Shafique remained firm at one end to steer Pakistan to a valuable first-innings advantage. With a 43-run lead and momentum firmly in their favour, Pakistan will look to capitalize on their strong position as the second Test heads into its decisive stages.
