‘Fake News’: Imran Ashraf Dismisses AI-Generated Clip Announcing His Death

ISLAMABAD, 20 August 2026 (News Desk): Actor and host Imran Ashraf has dismissed reports of his death, reassuring fans that he is safe and well after an AI-generated video claiming he had passed away went viral on social media.The fabricated clip sparked concern among fans, prompting Ashraf to clarify that he is absolutely fine. Taking to Instagram, the actor asked his followers to pray for him. “Alhamdulillah, I am absolutely fine; it’s fake news,” Ashraf wrote, adding, “Need your prayers.” The video claiming Ashraf’s death was posted by a TikTok account that also shared several other clips featuring senior journalists, cricketers and actors purportedly offering condolences over his alleged death.The AI-generated clip showed a news anchor from a private television channel announcing Ashraf’s death and claiming that he had suffered a cardiac arrest.Ashraf is not the only Pakistani celebrity to become the target of AI-generated misinformation. In June, singer Tahira Syed also dismissed false reports of her death after hearing the news circulating online, saying she was “absolutely fine” and urging people to avoid sharing unverified information. Earlier, actor and host Tauseeq Haider and actress Farah Sadia also criticized the spread of misinformation after a video falsely suggesting that the two had gotten married circulated on social media. The pair subsequently clarified that the wedding pictures and reports were fake.The incidents highlight the growing concern over AI-generated misinformation and the spread of fabricated content targeting public figures on social media platforms.
